Lions Home and Garden show will have “Something for everyone”
Spring is finally here and that means area residents are eager to get outdoors and spruce up their surroundings.
A perfect place to get great ideas for both exterior and interior projects is the sixth annual Dunnville Lions Home & Garden Show being held at Memorial Arena on Friday and Saturday.
The popular event will include displays from more than 50 local businesses and community organizations. The show will also include several demonstrations and lots of free draws.
“We’re just packed this year with vendors and there is now a waiting list,” Neil Vanderwal, event co-organizer with Perry Barnhart, said. “It’s completely sold out so people are getting a good response from being in the show.”
“We always say there’s something for everyone and there’s quite a variety this year with vendors covering everything,” he added. “The event is never the same and we have several new people taking part this year.”
Participating vendors cover a wide range of services and supplies from small engines and pool equipment to garden, farm and pet products. There will be displays dealing with computers, photography, travel, health foods, real estate, financial investments, insurance, and interior and exterior decor.
There will also be several community organizations participating including the Dunnville Hospital & Healthcare Foundation, the Dunnville Health Centre Volunteer Association, and the Haldimand Woodlot Owners Association. The Haldimand County Fire Department will also be in attendance with Sparky making an appearance to pass along fire safety tips to younger visitors.
This year’s show will also include several demonstrations including painting by artist William Biddle and woodcarving by Dan Rykse and Marv Ens.
Visitors to the Dunnville Lions Home & Garden Show will also be able to enter in plenty of draws as vendors offer special promotions and giveaways.
“William Biddle will be having a draw on one of his original prints and there will be lots of other giveaways,” Vanderwal said.
Visitors to the Home & Garden Show will also be able to attend a large craft show being held in the Rec Centre throughout the two-day event. The third annual craft show will include approximately 20 vendors displaying a wide variety of items including sandcastle candles, stained glass, silkflower arrangements, jewellery, painted glass, quilts and fabric art. There will also be woodworkers, soapmakers and clockmakers in attendance. The craft show will also include baking and a display by the South Coast Artists Guild.
“We’re trying to stay with people who make their own items and the event is getting better every year as more people learn we’re there,” Trudy Merigold, craft show organizer, said. “There are vendors from Cambridge, Stratford, Hamilton and Selkirk, but a lot of the vendors are from the Dunnville area.”
A few craft tables are still available at a cost of $35 per table for the two-day event. Further information is available by calling Merigold at 905-774-3488. The Rec Centre is wheelchair accessible.
The Dunnville Lions Home & Garden Show will run on Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free. Proceeds from the Home & Garden Show go back into the community to support various Dunnville Lions Club projects.
