Actress Heche splits from husband

annehecheActress Anne Heche and her cameraman husband, Coleman Laffoon, have separated after five years of marriage, her spokeswoman has confirmed.

The couple, who married in 2001, have a four-year-old son called Homer.

Their publicist Lisa Kasteler said: “They have requested that they be allowed their privacy at this time.”

The pair met whilst working on a documentary about comedy star Ellen DeGeneres, who Heche, 37, dated for three years before they split in 2000.

Before they broke up, the couple had spoken of how they wanted to marry.

Poor ratings

Heche, who rose to fame in daytime soap Another World, met DeGeneres in 1997 at a Vanity Fair party for the Oscars. At the time, DeGeneres was at the height of her fame with sitcom Ellen, and Heche was becoming a big name thanks to her part in the film Donnie Brasco.

However, the pair claimed the Hollywood establishment turned against them when they came out.

The ABC network cancelled Ellen a year after DeGeneres made her character the first openly gay lead in a sitcom, citing poor ratings.

Three years after the show was axed, the comedy actress made a comeback with a different series, called Ellen Again.

Heche is currently playing a relationship guru who relocates to Alaska in US TV drama Men in Trees.
